Since 2002, LYNCHBURG KEMPO has been providing top level instruction in the martial arts at the Jamerson YMCA for the Lynchburg, VA area.
We hope you enjoy our website and will stop by and visit us if you are in the area. This site is designed to give you information about our facility, our style of martial arts, our staff and provide you with information on how to contact us as well.
At LYNCHBURG KEMPO, we teach Kempo Jiu-Jitsu. A mixed martial art from the Hawaiian Kempo/Kajukenbo lineage that combines Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Kempo/Kenpo, Boxing, and Kung-Fu. This martial art uses hard, fast strikes (kicks, knees, punches, elbows) to vital points of the body, takedowns involving high impact throws, joint and limb breaking techniques and submissions (usually as follow-ups to takedowns), and ground grappling techniques from the top and bottom. We learn, drill, and spar in as close to a real street situation as safely possible. Everything we learn and drill is dedicated to staying safe if ever attacked. We are also very aware of the fact that even with great technique and skill, physical conditioning and strength are very important factors in ensuring a positive outcome in a life threatening street situation. So we do extensive conditioning drills to ensure our students stay in prime shape.
We also spend a lot of time teaching all of our students that unless they are in danger of being physically harmed, fighting is absolutely prohibited. We teach the appropriate time to defend oneself (or a loved one) and when to walk away. In our experience, most people of all ages gain so much self confidence by training in the martial arts, that they become much more peaceful, and don't feel they have anything to prove by fighting. We also teach options to fighting, and how to walk away from a fight while still keeping your dignity (which makes YOU the winner!).
We promote confidence, physical fitness, and the 5 traits of a true martial artist.
